1922 Neilsons Chocolate Type II (V61)

The 1922 Neilson’s Chocolate Type II baseball card set (V61) consists of 120 cards measuring 2” by 3-1/2” and closely resembles the 1922 American Caramel (E120) offering, though issued in Canada’s Neilson’s “Big League” Chocolate Bars. Type II was printed on a thinner stock of paper with the front displaying two distinct motifs with the player image in a centered oval surrounded by a decorative border and the player’s name, position and team written across the bottom. The back presents Neilson’s Chocolates written in standard font with no card number included. The issue is anchored by the scarcer Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth cards as well as Hall of Fame talent like Joe Sewell, Walter Johnson, Grover C. Alexander, Rogers Hornsby, Waite Hoyt and Harry Heilmann among many others. One of the most popular of 1920s sets, the thin stock used for the set means that 1922 Neilson’s Chocolate have survived in less than exemplary condition, with the highest graded examples demanding a premium.
