Possible Set Rating
The 1987 Donruss Rookies set consists of 56 cards, each one measuring 2-1/2” x 3-1/2”. The front of each card bears a posed or in-action color photo framed by a green border. A team logo is placed atop each image while the respective player’s name and position are printed within the lower border area; “The Rookies” brand name is prominently displayed. This set is anchored by Mark McGwire (#1), Bo Jackson (#14), Fred McGriff (#31), David Cone (#35), Rafael Palmeiro (#47), and Greg Maddux (#52). Key Extended Rookie Cards belong to Ellis Burks (#5) and Matt Williams (#45). The 1987 Donruss Rookies set was released only as a tightly-sealed, cellophane-wrapped factory set. As a result, the first card in the set – belonging to McGwire – is condition sensitive and difficult to fine in higher grades.
