Jose Canseco

Jose Canseco Capas, Jr. (July 2, 1964-) was a powerful Major League outfielder and designated hitter that played for seven different teams during a 17-year career. The Oakland Athletics drafted Canseco in the 15th round of the 1982 amateur draft, debuting with the team three years later. While part of the Athletics squad (1985-1992, 1997), Canseco was named the 1986 American League Rookie of the Year, hitting 33 home runs with 117 RBI. In 1987, he and teammate Mark McGwire joined forces to become a powerful hitting duo dubbed “The Bash Brothers.” In 1986, he was named the American League MVP (with a .307 batting average, 124 RBI, 42 home runs, and 40 stolen bases), and became the first player to hit at least 40 home runs and steal at least 40 bases in the same season. He also played for the Texas Rangers (1992-1994), Boston Red Sox (1995-1996), Toronto Blue Jays (1998), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1999-2000), New York Yankees (2000), and Chicago White Sox (2001). During his career, he was a six-time All-Star, four-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and 1994 American League Comeback Player of the Year.
