Brady Anderson (International-Refractor)
1997 Bowman Chrome International
Brady Kevin Anderson (January 18, 1964-) is the first player in American League history to post a 20 home run/50 steal/75 RBI season as well as a 50 home run/20 steal season. The Boston Red Sox selected Brady in the tenth round of the 1985 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of California – Irvine. Anderson was shipped to Baltimore after a short time in the Boston outfield, but took a few seasons, coming off the bench, to break into the Orioles everyday lineup. Brady impressed, but didn’t dazzle the Orioles management until the 1996 season when he blasted an astonishing 50 home runs, having hit only 72 in his previous eight campaigns. Anderson, a streaky power hitter by his own admission, finished second to Mark McGwire (52) in round-tripper that anomalous season, as he only hit 88 in his remaining six campaigns. Brady roamed the outfield for 15 years with the Red Sox (1988), the Orioles (1988-2001) and the Cleveland Indians (2002), frequently robbing batters of home runs as he climbed outfield walls for remarkable catches seemingly every game. Brady was named to three AL All-Star teams and helped Baltimore reach the ALCS against the New York Yankees in 1996, but losing the series four games to one. Brady Anderson finished his career with a .256 batting average, had 1,661 hits including 338 double and 210 home runs, scored 1,062 runs, stole 315 bases and drove in 761 RBI. In the field, he posted a .989 fielding percentage with 3,713 putouts, 60 assists, 16 double plays and 42 errors in 3,815 chances.
