1922 Neilson's Chocolate Type I

The 1922 Neilson’s Chocolate Type I baseball card set (V61) consists of 120 cards measuring 2” by 3-1/2” and closely resembles the 1922 American Caramel (E120) offering, though issued in Canada’s Neilson’s “Big League” Chocolate Bars. Type I was printed on a heavy stock of paper, though still thin, with the front displaying two distinct motifs with the player image in a centered oval surrounded by a decorative border and the player’s name, position and team written across the bottom. The back presents Neilson’s Chocolates written in Old English font with the card number in the lower left corner. The issue is anchored by the scarcer Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth cards as well as Hall of Fame talent like Joe Sewell, Walter Johnson, Grover C. Alexander, Rogers Hornsby, Waite Hoyt and Harry Heilmann among many others. One of the most popular of 1920s sets, the thin stock used for the set means that 1922 Neilson’s Chocolate have survived in less than exemplary condition, with the highest graded examples demanding a premium.
