1910 American Caramel Pirates (E90-2)

The 1910 American Caramel Pirates set (E90-2) consists of a mere 11 cards but is among the most elusive of all early 20th century collectables. Manufactured by the Pennsylvania-based American Caramel Company, each unnumbered card measures 1-1/2” x 2-5/8” and exclusively features members of the Pittsburgh Pirates – the squad that had captured the 1909 World Series title. Card fronts feature color, artistic depictions of select players set against a different pastel color. The image has a blank border with the athletes surname and team in blue print. They key card belongs to Hall of Famer Honus Wagner, followed by Hall of Fame player-manager Fred Clarke. The set also features Babe Adams, George Gibson, Ham Hyatt, Tommy Leach, Sam Leever, Nick Maddox, Dots Miller, Deacon Phillippe, and Chief Wilson. The set’s elusive nature owes much to the fact that they were produced in smaller numbers and distributed regionally rather than nationally.
