1908 Detroit Free Press Tigers Postcards

The 1908 Detroit Free Press Postcard baseball set highlights eleven of the Motor City’s reigning American League champions. This star-laden set was issued by the Detroit Free Press newspaper and was sold for $1 (per set) at Bennett Park, the Tigers home from 1901-1911. These unnumbered 3-1/2” by 5-1/2” (standard-sized) postcards have a white border surrounding a black-and-white image of the player with his last name and position printed at the bottom, as well as a line for “Copyright by the Detroit Free Press, 1908.” The player’s name is boldly printed in black in all uppercase and his position is held within parentheses. The backs feature the standard postcard distinctions. Highlighted in this issuance are: Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford and Hughie Jennings, among others.
