The Mount Rushmore of Football Cards

In 2015, PSA started putting together The Mount Rushmore of Cards for each segment of the hobby. These are not necessarily the four most valuable or scarcest cards, these are the cards that best represent the hobby as a whole. It is a combination of their overall importance and the symbolic power of the card image itself. From left to right, the prestigious side of the mountain starts with what is considered the most valuable football card of all – the 1935 National Chicle #34 Bronko Nagurski. This hobby staple is followed by the rookie card of the man who paved the way for many of the elite quarterbacks today – the 1957 Topps #138 Johnny Unitas. In the third slot is the rookie card of the man many football historians consider to be the greatest player who ever suited up – the 1958 Topps #62 Jim Brown. Finally, to round out this elite quartet, is the 1965 Topps #122 Joe Namath. The Namath rookie is the 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle of the football card world.
