The Mount Rushmore of Basketball Cards

In 2015, PSA started putting together The Mount Rushmore of Cards for each segment of the hobby. These are not necessarily the four most valuable or scarcest cards, these are the cards that best represent the hobby as a whole. It is a combination of their overall importance and the symbolic power of the card image itself. From left to right, the prestigious side of the mountain starts with the most valuable card in the basketball world from a pound-for-pound perspective – the 1948 Bowman #69 George Mikan. Mikan was the first dominant big man in the game and the image of him driving towards the basketball is a classic. This hobby staple is followed by the rookie card of the man who won more championships than anyone else in basketball history – the 1957 Topps #77 Bill Russell. In the third slot is the rookie card of the most dominant force to ever play the game – the 1961 Fleer #8 Wilt Chamberlain. Finally, to round out this elite quartet, is the 1986 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan. Like Babe Ruth in baseball, Jordan has become the standard against which all others are measured when it comes to hoops. This is PSA’s Mount Rushmore of Basketball Cards.
