The Mount Rushmore of Baseball Cards

In 2015, PSA started putting together The Mount Rushmore of Cards for each segment of the hobby, starting with baseball cards. These are not necessarily the four most valuable or scarcest cards, these are the cards that best represent the hobby as a whole. It is a combination of their overall importance and the symbolic power of the card image itself. From left to right, the prestigious side of the mountain starts with what is often referred to as the Mona Lisa of baseball cards – the 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner. This hobby rarity is followed by the major league rookie card of the greatest player who ever lived, a card that has emerged as a real powerhouse in recent years – the 1916 M101-4 or M101-5 Sporting News #151 Babe Ruth. In the third slot is the most iconic card image in the entire hobby, featuring the man who was idolized by more Baby Boomers than anyone on earth – the 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle. Finally, to round out this elite quartet, the 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron fills slot number four. Beyond Aaron’s grace and incredible consistency as a player, the card itself – like the 1952 Topps Mantle – is one that represents baseball card collecting as well as any card in the hobby.
