Published Set: Grote15's 1979 Topps Baseball Pack Fresh Card Collection
Long shunned by collectors, the 1979 Topps set is surprisingly difficult to put together in high grade, one of the very toughest of the 1970s. Poor card stock and centering issues make finding Mint or Gem Mint examples a rare occurrence, much tougher than the market value for this issue would indicate. On the plus side, unopened product is fairly inexpensive, so you can have fun as a collector opening packs and putting the set together without the stress level you feel when busting more valuable packs from the early 1970s. All of the cards in my set, with few exceptions, are cards that I pulled from unopened wax or rack packs and submitted to PSA for grading. Not the most financially sound pursuit, to be sure, but an enjoyable one in any case, and one that reminds me that this is a hobby and that the pursuit is part of the fun!
