1966 Topps - Basic

The 1966 Topps baseball set is one that is filled with stars but plagued with condition obstacles and high-number scarcities. This 598-card set features the usual cast of star characters like Mickey Mantle, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Pete Rose, and a great number one card of Willie Mays. The set also features rookie cards of hurlers Jim Palmer and Don Sutton, both Hall of Famers. The most common condition obstacle seems to be the presence of tilt cuts. When the image is titled, the centering can be dramatically affected preventing an otherwise Mint card from reaching unqualified Mint status. Keep in mind that some of the cards, in the high-number series, were short printed (SP) and they do sell for a premium. In fact, some of the short printed cards feature star players.
