Published Set: MacGiants Collection

The 64 Topps Giants set has all the best characteristics that card collecting can offer. Great closeup photos of the players with vivid colors, plenty of Star HOF Players, and lots of local favorites that are still appreciated in their respective cities across the country. The SPs and low populations can be frustrating to get at times, but it is all just one big adventure in sports history anyway. I particularly enjoy the articles on the back - stats are nice but the personal touch these cards offer on their flipside I find is a great feature that really distinguishes them apart from other sets. And I was lucky enough to have seen and root (sometimes on the radio) for a lot of these players while they were in action in 1963/64 - during the same time I played Pony League with my older brother. I remember the big decision as a batter - is it going to be a curve ball or fast ball? Sometimes you just had to stay in there and risk a deep thigh bruise to find out. And that is a tough way to get to 1st base.
