All Time Set: Don Senges

This set is the first 1962 Topps baseball set to be completed in all PSA 8s or better (completed 3/6/06). The final piece to this set was #323 Don Landrum...one of the rarest Post-War common cards to find in PSA 8 or better (population = 5). The 1962 Topps set features the largest number of condition sensitive "low population" cards in PSA 8. There are over 40 common cards with populations below 15. These often sell for 5X to 25X SMR values i.e., $140 to $700 per card. Beyond the commons, such stand-outs include: #288 Billy Williams, #350 Frank Robinson, and #353 Bill Mazeroski. Each of these star cards often sell at 1.5X to 3X SMR values. Other notable cards which carry significant premiums (well above SMR) include #1 Maris (first card in set), #300 Willie Mays, #318 Mantle in Action, and #598 Hickman (last card in set). Last but not least, my set may be the last (in terms of date completed) major Post-War set to be completed in all PSA 8s or better. The 1962 Topps set is very condition senstive due to the brown borders, and consequently achieving all PSA 8s or better is next to impossible. This set is being sold in Mastro's April 2006 Auction.
