Published by Nadja Caramel in 1910, the E104-1 set consists of 18 cards, each measuring 1-1/2” by 2-3/4”. The unnumbered cards picture a colorful player portrait on the front with a small white border and his name and team affiliation in blue ink at the bottom edge. Card backs are either blank or have a distinctive “Play Ball! And Eat Nadja Caramels The Winners” advertisement. The extremely scarce E104-1 collectibles (considered by some to be a subset of a complete E104 Nadja issue) highlight members of the 1910 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics. Frank “Home Run” Baker, Chief Bender, Eddie Collins, Connie Mack, and Eddie Plank anchor the set. An even more scarce variation on this set can be found with a “World Champions-1910” overprint arched across the top of the player image (though that version has only been found with a blank back). This turn-of-the-century treasure is highly prized in the hobby for their distinctively bright visual qualities and considerable rarity. Nadja cards are typically found only in the most advanced collections.
