Martin Dihigo
Martin Magdaleno Dihigo Llanos (May 25, 1906 - May 20, 1971) has been honored by his induction into the American, Cuban and Mexican Hall of Fame. Versatile and effective in seemingly any position, Dihigo spend time at second base and on the mound during his 24-year career that spanned the Americas and the Caribbean. El Maestro played in the Negro Leagues from 1923-1936 posting a .307 career batting average with 431 hits and 227 RBI while also adding a record of 26-19 from the mound with 176 strikeouts and a 2.92 ERA. He was a two-time selection to the Negro League All-Star team and was elected the Cuban League’s Most Valuable Player four times. Combining his statistics from the Caribbean and Americas teams, his lifetime career average was .302 with 130 home runs and a 252-132 pitching record. The Negro League Committee elected Martin Magdaleno Dihigo Llamos to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.
