Question: Why are Lou Gehrig sweet spot signatures scarcer than side panel examples?

Answer: Well, during most of his career, Lou played in the shadow of Babe Ruth and it was tradition to reserve the sweet spot on the baseball for the big name or names so to speak. There was no name bigger than Babe Ruth. On most multi-signed or team signed baseballs, Ruth took the sweet spot. We are all creatures of habit and Lou is no exception. Even after Babe departed from the game, Lou was so used to signing on side panels that he continued to do so most of the time. Authentic sweet spot examples do exist but they are tough to come by.
