The 1961 Topps Sports Cars card set consists of 66 cards measuring 2-1/2” by 4-11/16”. Each card features a colorized image of one of these exotic and limited production cars with a small, white border. The name of the automobile manufacturer is boldly printed in red within the bottom border with the model printed just below it in smaller black ink. It also lists the style of vehicle and country of origin from where it was produced. Card backs bear bold black and red graphics (including the card number) plus a brief informational paragraph about the vehicle on the front. Key cards in this set include Lotus Seven (#1), Corvette SS (#32), Jaguar XK (#60) and Lotus Elite (#66). All of the automobiles for the 1960s “dream car" list are represented, including Aston-Martin, Austin Healey, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. The Topps Sports Cars cards are known for their condition sensitivity as well as their unique and larger “tall boy” size, which thereby makes them terribly difficult to assemble in higher grades.
