1888 Allen & Ginter (N29)
The 1888 Allen and Ginter (N29) The World Champions set consists of 50 cards, each measuring 1-1/2" by 2-3/4", and were inserted in cigarette boxes manufactured by the Richmond, Virginia company. Released shortly after the N-28 set, the cards were similar in almost every regard: unnumbered, but printed on the reverse each piece was a checklist identifying all 50 cards. This iconic set features full color lithographs on thick white cardstock with the athlete’s name, position and team affiliation (where applicable) printed below, but without the cigarette manufacturer’s name. The series features those who excelled in swimming, pole vaulting, running, cycling, and other sports, but is anchored by its six baseball players: Wm. Ewing , Jas. H. Fogarty ?(technically an error as his middle initial was actually “G.”), Charles H. Getzin ?(Getzien), Geo. F. Miller, John Morrell (Morrill) and James Ryan.
