Joe Klukay

Joseph Francis Klukay (November 6, 1922 - February 3, 2006) played left wing for the high-powered and defense-minded Toronto Maple Leafs of the 1940s, anchoring the penalty-killing unit alongside linemate Nick Metz. A consistent scorer, Joe had six seasons with ten or more goals and six seasons with 15 or more assists. He played ten years in the NHL with the Maple Leafs (1946-1952, 1954-1956) and the Boston Bruins (1952-1954) earning three NHL All-Star Game appearances. Playing with a plethora of Hall of Famers during his time in Toronto, Joe appeared in five Stanley Cup Finals, winning four with the Leafs (1947-1949, 1951) and losing once with the Boston Bruins in 1953. Joe Klukay scored 109 career goals and 127 assists in 566 NHL regular season games. He added 13 goals and ten assists in 71 postseasons games while winning four Stanley Cup championships. Klukay left the NHL in 1955 and joined the Pittsburgh Hornets of the AHL for one seasons (1955-56) before landing with the Windsor Bulldogs for seven more campaigns. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the 1963 Allan Cup as the OHA-Sr. league’s champions.
