1959 Topps

Topps 1959 Football set consists of 176 cards, each measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2", issued in two series of 88 cards each. The cards feature a posed color portrait in front of a solid color background; the athlete’s name (in alternating red and blue letters), team and position are situated along the bottom border area. Each reverse includes the player’s career totals and statistics, as well as a scratch-off quiz. The set is anchored by Johnny Unitas (#1), Jim Brown (#10), Frank Gifford (#20), Bart Starr (#23), Bobby Layne (#40), Raymond Berry (#55), Paul Hornung (#62) and Y.A. Tittle (#130). Key rookie cards include Sam Huff (#51), Alex Karras (#103), Jerry Kramer (#116), Jim Parker (#132), Bobby Mitchell (#140) and Jim Taylor (#155). The Taylor card was also printed with a notable error – depicting the Chicago Cardinals linebacker and not the Green Bay Packers running back as intended.
