Roosevelt “Rosey” Brown, Jr. (1932-2004) (OT) was an All-American but still a sleeper pick out of Morgan State University in the 1953 NFL Draft when the Giants took him in the 27th round. The New York Giants claimed the relatively small offensive tackle and turned him into a pass blocking genius who was especially effective in the open field paving the way for fellow Hall of Fame back Frank Gifford. Rosey Brown played 13 years at offensive tackle for the New York Giants (1953-1965). He was a member of the 1956 NFL Championship Giants and helped them capture five more divisional titles in an eight-year span (1956-1963). Brown’s smaller stature never limited his ability to clear the way for backs, but added the element of speed and agility that few blockers of the time could match. Rosey Brown was named to six NFL All-Pro First Teams and was selected for nine NFL Pro Bowl appearances. He is the second player to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his offensive merits alone. Roosevelt Brown was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1975.
