Shohei Ohtani (July 5, 1994- ), nicknamed "Sho Time", is a Japanese pitcher and designated hitter for the Las Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Prior to joining the Angels in 2018, he played for the Hokkaido Hippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball's Pacific League. After six seasons of pitching and playing outfield for the Ham Fighters, he signed with Angels and won the 2018 Rookie of the Year Award after batting .285 with 22 homr runs and 61 RBI, while posting a 4-2 record with 3.31 ERA while on the mound. Ohtani underwent Tommy John Surgery in the 2018-2019 off-season. As he was unable to pitch in the following season, Ohtani was a designated hitter throughout 2019.
