1990 Topps

The 1990 Topps Baseball set consists of 792 cards, each measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2”. Each card front bears a color player image surrounded by a colored border; the athlete’s name is printed along the bottom border with the team name at the top. The set is anchored by Nolan Ryan (#1), Curt Schilling (#97), Barry Bonds (#220), Roger Clemens (#245), John Smoltz (#535), and Tony Gwynn (#730), and the rookie cards of Juan Gonzalez (#331), Sammy Sosa (#692) and Bernie Williams (#701). Subsets include All-Stars (#s 385-407) and Turn Back the Clock (#s 661-665), with Draft Picks scattered throughout the collection. The set is perhaps best known for its Frank Thomas error card (#414A), which was printed without Thomas’ name on the front and without portions of its black border. Because of its high value, numerous counterfeit examples have been reported. A handful of trading cards picturing then-President George Bush were also discovered in some packs, even though the commemorative examples were never meant to be released.
