The 1989 Score Rising Stars 100-card baseball set is similar in design to that year's Score Superstars, but highlights the top up-and-coming Major Leaguers. Each card features a full-color photograph of the player in-action surrounded by a thin green border and a royal blue perimeter border. At the bottom of the image is the player's name, position and team and the Score logo in prominently displayed in green and white in the upper portion of the card. The backs show a second player photo with the "Rising Star" banner across the top, the player's name, "1989 Rookie" star logo, a short bio highlighting the player's talents and the MLB, MLB Player's Association and Score logos at the bottom. This set was produced parallel to the magazine 1988-89 Baseball's 100 Hottest Rookies and includes six Magic Motion trivia cards ("Rookies to Remember"). This set includes the likes of Gary Sheffield (#10), Randy Johnson (#63), Roberto Alomar (#72) and Mark Grace (#78).
