1959 Bazooka Hand Cut

The 1959 Bazooka Baseball set consists of 23 unnumbered cards, each one measuring approximately 2-13/16" by 4-15/16" (when they are perfectly cut on their dotted borders). Cards bear full color representations of National Pastime heroes of the era as well as future Hall of Famers, including Hank Aaron, Richie Ashburn, Ernie Banks, Orlando Cepeda, Don Drysdale, Nellie Fox, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Bill Mazeroski and Duke Snider. A multicolored panel at the bottom carries the player’s name, position and team. As the cards were issued as the entire bottom of boxes of Bazooka gum, any high-grade example is difficult to find, with the majority of cards subject to shelf wear, creasing, irregular edges from cutting, and back damage. A variation of the first card in set, Aaron, can be found with his name in either white or yellow lettering. Short prints include Cooperstown enshrines Ashburn, Banks, Drysdale, Fox and Snider, along with stars Ken Boyer, Bob Cerv, Rocky Colavito, Jackie Jensen, Harvey Kuenn, Billy Pierce, Roy Sivers, Gus Triandos and Vic Wertz. The 1959 Bazooka set is seen as one of the scarcest of all 1950s issues.
