Warren Louis Hacker (November 21, 1924 – May 22, 2002) Illinois native Warren Hacker experienced both the ultimate dream and worst nightmare. He pitched for his hometown Cubbies from 1948 through 1956, surely a Windy City fantasy come true. In 1952, the knuckleball and sinkerball pitcher put together a 15–9 record with a 2.58 ERA. In 1953, however, it was nightmare time. Hacker surrendered a league-leading 35 home runs, lost a league-high 19 games, and allowed the most earned runs in the NL as the sad sack Cubs finished seventh. Hacker lost 15 and 13 games with the Cubs in 1955 and 1956, respectively, before moving to the Redlegs and Phillies. He pitched in the minors through 1966 with one trip back to the Bigs as a White Sox reliever in 1961. Hacker later managed and coached in the minors for several years. He was 77 years old when he died in 2002.
