1953 Johnston Cookies Braves

The 1953 Johnston Cookies Braves baseball set consists of 25 cards, measuring 2" by 3-7/8", and is confined to Atlanta's hometown team. This is the first installment of three consecutive issuances and numbers from #1 to 25. Each card was distributed in boxes of cookies, but collectors were able to purchase complete sets through a mail-in offer. Each player appears in a colorized portrait-style, previously black-and-white photo. The cards measure 2-9/16” by 3-5/5” with the numbers appearing on the back within a tomahawk drawn outline. The backs also show the player’s personal statistics, “batting record”, a brief biography “Borrowed” from the 1953 Milwaukee Braves yearbook and the Johnston Cookies tagline, "No One Makes Cookies Like Johnston." This set is highlighted by Hall of Famers Warren Spahn (#10) and Ed Mathews (#21) and numerous All-Stars.
