1951 Topps Red Back

The 1951 Topps Red Backs baseball set consist of 52 cards sold two per one-cent package. Each card displays a black-and-white head shot of a player on a red, white, blue and yellow background. The cards have rounded corners and measure 2" by 2-5/8" and were created as a playing card game with numerous game situations and plays printed on the front for playing a game of baseball. The Red Back set was sold with a foldout paper game poster n a plastic bag for $0.29. The backs feature an intricate baseball diamond themed design with various baseball accouterments of the game displayed boldly in a red background. Due to a hoard of Red Backs found in the 1980s, this issuance is much more common than its counterpart Blue Backs, which are much more scarce. This set is highlighted by: Larry (Yogi) Berra (#1), Phil Rizzuto (#6), Dominick DiMaggio (#20), Bob Feller (#22), Warren Spahn (#30), Gil Hodges (#31), Gus Zernial (#36a - Chicago in bio.), Ed (Duke) Snider (#38), Monte Irvin (#50) and Tommy Holmes (#52a - Boston in bio.).
