The 1950 Menko (JCM21) set consists of 53 cards. The set was distributed only in Japan, with each card individually cut from a larger sheet; cards measure approximately 1-3/8" x 2-1/16". Not surprising, all of the suites feature Japanese baseball players, with the key card belonging to the deck’s “Joker” – the Sultan of Swat himself, Babe Ruth. Ruth’s crudely drawn, colorized facial features are easily recognizable as they pop from its multi-color laurel-and-shield backdrop and surrounding full-bleed red background. Card backs resemble a standard-issue playing card back design. The Menko Ruth card is one of only a few instances that the New York Yankees legend was pictured on a Japanese-issued card.
