1948 Bowman

The 1948 Bowman set marked the company’s entrance into the baseball card fray. The set consists of 48 cards, each measuring 2-1/16" by 2-1/2”. Rookie cards include those of future Hall of Famers Ralph Kiner (#3), Yogi Berra (#6), Warren Spahn (#18) and Stan Musial (#36), plus entries for Johnny Mize (#4), Bob Feller (#5), Enos Slaughter (#17) and Red Schoendienst (#38). The 1948 Bowman series also contains a dozen short prints that were removed from the normal 36-car printing sheet to accommodate high-numbered cards (#s 37-48). The short prints are Pete Reiser (#7), Phil Rizzuto (#8), Willard Marshall (#13), Jack Lohrke (#16), Buddy Kerr (#20), Bill Bevens (#22), Dutch Leonard (#24), Frank Shea (#26), Emil Verban (#28), Joe Page (#29), Whitey Lockman (#30) and Sheldon Jones (#34).
