Joe Ducky Medwick - 1938 Goudey

Joseph Michael “Ducky” Medwick (1911-1975) was a burly left fielder whose gait resembled that of a waddling duck, thus earning his comical nickname. Despite his unusual stride, Medwick gave opposing teams nothing to laugh about. The 10-time All-Star racked up 2,471 hits, scored 1,198 runs, drove in 1,383 RBI and batted .324 over his 17-year career. Medwick played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1932-1940, 1947-1948) as a member of the infamous “Gashouse Gang”, the Brooklyn Dodgers (1940-1943, 1946) the New York Giants (1943-1945) and the Boston Braves (1945). Joe had a career year in 1934 leading the league with 156 games swatting 237 hits including 56 doubles and 31 home runs, collecting 154 RBI and batting .374 and taking the 1934 Triple Crown and National League Most Valuable player award. Joe Medwick remains the last player in the National League to win the Triple Crown. Joseph Michael “Ducky” Medwick was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1968.
