Gus Suhr

August Richard “Gus” Suhr (January 3, 1906 - January 15, 2004) played first base for 11 seasons in the National League with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1930-1939) and the Philadelphia Phillies (1939-1940). Three times he led the league in games played and three times hit over .300. Suhr had a streak of 822 consecutive games played until he took a day off to attend his mother’s funeral. Gus Suhr finished his career with 1,446 hits, 714 runs, 818 RBI and a .279 career batting average.
