1925 Maple Crispette (V117)

The 1925 Maple Crispette baseball card set is comprised of 30 cards, each measuring 1-3/8” x 2-1/4”. Issued by the Maple Crispette Candy Company of Montreal, Canada, each card pictures a black-and-white likeness of a player with a black frame; his name and the card number appear beneath the image and a thick white border surrounds all of the elements. Backs have a bat-ball-glove motif with the company’s name and offer to redeem 30 baseball or hockey cards for one of those items. The key cards belong to Babe Ruth (#8), Casey Stengel (#15), and Ty Cobb (#22). Other highlights include Pie Traynor (#2), Ray Schalk (#3), Eddie Collins (#4), Waite Hoyt (#7), Joe Sewell (#12), Jim Bottomley (#19), Bucky Harris (#21), Bill McKechnie (#25), Herb Pennock (#27), Ed Roush (#28), and Walter Johnson (#30). The Stengel card was short-printed -- making the send-in offer a difficult task to fulfill. It also makes it a challenge for modern collectors to gather all 30 cards.
