1922 American Caramel Series of 240 (E120)
The 1922 American Caramel (E120) set contains 240 cards, each measuring 2” x 3-1/2”. The set features all of the era’s Major League stars – including numerous Hall of Famers - with teams broken down alphabetically with their respective league. The set is evenly represented by fifteen players from each of the sixteen teams, and was one of the first sets produced using two distinct motifs depending on the league: sepia-toned cards for American League players and a greenish-blue hue for National League subjects. An action shot of the athlete is displayed within an oval frame-like design; his name and team affiliation appear at the bottom border. This set is anchored by Eddie Collins (#16), Tris Speaker (#42), Ty Cobb (#48), Harry Heilmann (#54), Frank Baker (#61), Waite Hoyt (#64), Babe Ruth (#71), George Sisler (#102), Walter Johnson (#110), Grover Alexander (#152), Gabby Hartnett (#158), Frankie Frisch (#185), Pie Traynor (#225), and Rogers Hornsby (#232). One of the most popular of all E-series editions, the thin stock used for the set means that E120s have survived in less than exemplary condition, with the highest graded examples demanding a premium.
