Rip Engle
Charles A. "Rip" Engle (March 26, 1906–March 7, 1983) was an end on the football team at Western Maryland College. After coaching in high school and a series of assistant positions at the college level, Engle was head coach of Brown University from 1944-1949, and Pennsylvania State University from 1950-1966. He compiled a career record of 132-68-8. He also served as basketball coach of both schools. Rip Engle was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1973.
