Lot #23 - Joe DiMaggio & Marilyn Monroe Marriage Certificate - This is the official document that bound the two icons in marriage. Dated January 14, 1954, this State of California Certificate certifies that Joseph DiMaggio and Norma Jeane Dougherty were a married couple. The document is signed by California Municipal Court Judge Charles S. Peery who presided over the wedding and Rene Barsocchini and Tom DiMaggio are listed as witnesses.
Lot #46 - George Steinbrenner Love Letter Collection - The relationship documented by this archive of notes and letters could have been from any two teenagers in 1950's America. The college kid that wrote these letters to his "friend" Mary Jane Elster was George Steinbrenner. In the 19 hand-written and typed letters from 1949-51, he writes about everything from his fear of performing in a football game against Princeton to his disappointment with the Indians pennant chances. These letters became public in 2010 shortly after Steinbrenner passed away. Many of the letters retain their original mailing envelope and are mounted in a 39-page custom-made leather album measuring 13 x 15 inches. A selection of press clippings documenting the Schriner family's legal wrangling with the Yankees are also included in this bound archive.
Lot #45 - 1956 Don Larson World Series MVP Award -- Officially called "The Babe Ruth Award", the wooden plaque measures 12 x 15 ½ inches with an engraved centerpiece that reads "To the outstanding player of the 1956 World Series Don Larsen New York Yankees Presented by the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers Ass'n of America". Comes directly from Don Larsen's personal collection with a signed Don Larsen LOA.
Lot #33 - Paul Hornung 1956 Heisman Trophy - Hornung was awarded the Heisman Trophy for the 1956 season despite the Fighting Irish's 2-8 record. The "Golden Boy" would become the first player to win the Heisman, be the first selection in the NFL Draft, win the NFL MVP and be enshrined in both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. This is one of several Heisman's made for Hornung before the DAC changed the policy --one is on display at Notre Dame, another is at the Packers Hall of Fame and this is the one formerly on display at his home. Comes with Hornung LOA.
Lot #55 - 1978 Muhammad Ali & Angelo Dundee 3-Time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Ring - Presented here is a ring that recognizes Ali's three championships, alongside long-time trainer Angelo Dundee. The face of the ring features a larger round diamond set against a large maroon stone. Three smaller diamonds (signifying the three different titles) are at the bottom. Around the bezel in relief reads "M. ALI WORLD CHAMP THREE TIMES". The right shank features Ali's name and the names of the opponents he beat for his three titles (S. Liston, G. Foreman, L. Spinks) in an image of a boxing glove. The years of the victories ('64 '74' '78) are down below. The left side of the band reads "DUNDEE" along with "TRAINER OF MUHAMMAD ALI '60-'79". Per Jim Dundee, this is the ONLY championship ring produced for and worn by Ali and Dundee while Ali was an active boxer. Comes with LOA from Dundee.
Lot #71 - 1997-98 Michael Jordan Game Used Bulls Home White Jersey - 1997-1998 was Jordan's last season with the Bulls and he made it count: an average of 28.7 points per game, NBA All-Star First Team honors and the last of his five NBA MVP Awards were among his many achievements that season. In addition, Jordan led the Bulls to another NBA Championship, where his basket with 5 seconds left beat the the Utah Jazz. This jersey shows light game use and comes with a LOA from the Chicago Bulls.
