Rare Mantle, Mays, Jeter & Pele Cards Highlight Over 1,000 Lots in Small Traditions' 7th Annual Holiday Premium Auction, Now Open for Bidding

Denver, CO - Bidding is now underway in Small Traditions, LLC's 7th Annual Holiday Premium Auction, which will run until Saturday, December 14th and end with a hard auction closing procedure at precisely 11pm PT (2am ET). With over 1,000 lots, bidders are encouraged to thoroughly explore the auction and enter their bids or mark their watched items well in advance of the auction closing. Some of the auction's highlights include the following:

1953-54 Briggs Meats Willie Mays PSA 1 PR

One of the rarest Willie Mays cards in existence, the offered copy ranks as one of only two examples to ever receive a numerical grade from PSA out of a minuscule population pool of just 7 copies on record. Goldin Auctions recently sold the only other numerically graded copy in existence (graded PSA 2.5) for $7,365 earlier this year, but that copy was hand-cut with zero traces of the characteristic orange border around the picture. The offered copy may be the only PSA-graded copy on record with the orange border still intact. It was consigned to Small Traditions through the company's Cost-Free Grading program, sent in a literal shoebox to the company's Denver office via USPS mail with a note from the consignor that read, in part, "have fun!"

1958 Alifabolaget Pele Rookie Card PSA 8 NM-MT

Offered is a superb example of the 1958 Pele card that has earned hobby consensus as the most coveted and iconic of all Pele cards. Consigned along with several other examples to Small Traditions directly from Sweden, where the card was produced to mark the 1958 World Cup, the offered copy is the finest of the small group recently graded by the Denver-based company on behalf of its Swedish consignor, also as a part of the company's Cost-Free Grading program. "It's a spectacular example that looks far superior than most of the other PSA 8s we've seen and even some of the PSA 9s," said Small Traditions founder, Dave Thorn. In addition to several other rare Pele cards, the current auction offers a bevy of other high-end soccer rookie cards from the likes of Lord Stanley Mathews, Diego Maradona, and Leo Messi.

1964 Meadowgold Dairy Mickey Mantle PSA 8 NM-MT

With the next-highest graded example on record rating all the way down in the EX 5 category, this 1964 Meadowgold Mantle is sure to attract attention from Mantle collectors obsessed with only the best. Not only is the card virtually impossible to find in decent condition, but it has long been recognized as one of the rarest Mantle cards in any shape. The offered copy is one of just 16 examples ever graded. Also offered from the same rare issue is a PSA 6 example of Sandy Koufax, the highest of only 13 examples ever graded. The cards were issued on the sides of milk cartons 55 years ago, and very few have survived the last half-century.

Geoff Smith #1 Current Finest Derek Jeter Master PSA Set Registry Part II: Pop 1s

In the second installment of the break-up of super collector Geoff Smith's #1 Current Finest Derek Jeter Master Set Registry, the consignor has decided to part with over 100 cards from his collection that rank as the single highest graded copies on record, most of those rating PSA 10 Gem Mint. Cards range from standard issues that have proven to be condition sensitive to rare inserts, regional giveaways, and unusual oddball cards. With Jeter's Hall of Fame vote right around the corner, now is the time to stock up on rare cards of The Captain, and Small Traditions' current auction has some of the very best available.

Signed Memorabilia and Rare 1990s Inserts and Autographs

In addition to a number of signed hats, bats, balls, and photographs, the current auction also offers a staggering number of scarce and high-end 1990s inserts and autograph cards, both graded and raw, both singles as well as many sets and partial sets. Many of these cards were consigned to Small Traditions during the company's Southeast Consignment Road Trip last month, an effort which the company plans to duplicate in Arizona and California in the coming months and then again in the Northeast this coming spring.
