1909-12 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs – An Underrated Tobacco Set

nap-lajoieMost collectors are familiar with the 1909-11 T206 baseball card set, a set that is one of the true staples of the hobby. For those who seek high-grade examples, the T206 set is not for the faint of heart or those who don’t have a substantial amount of disposable income. A great option for those who covet high-quality collectibles from the era but either don’t have or want to spend an enormous amount of money on their sets may be the 1909-12 Sweet Caporal Domino Disc issue. They are tough, yet relatively inexpensive. The set includes a great selection of stars and Hall of Famers, yet most people wouldn’t have to borrow against their 401k to buy it. In the following article, we take an in-depth look at this 137-piece set by talking to the collectors who pursue it.

The 1941 Play Ball Card Set – A Classic Cardboard Tribute to One of Baseball’s Most Unforgettable Seasons

ted-williamsOne of the true classics of the pre-WWII era is the 1941 Play Ball baseball card set. It was the first year Play Ball decided to infuse color into their cards and what a year it was. In 1941, Joe DiMaggio would hit safely in 56 straight games and Ted Williams would finish the season with a remarkable .406 batting average. Those two mega-stars are the cornerstones of the set, a set that contains other big names like Bill Dickey, Jimmie Foxx, Hank Greenberg, Mel Ott and even a tough rookie card of Pee Wee Reese. Despite its place in hobby lore, this 72-card set has been relatively soft in the market the last few years compared to some of its comparable counterparts. In the following piece, we dig deeper into this beautiful issue.
