Joe Nossek – Ex-Big Leaguer Discusses Bo, Brett and Baseball Cards

joe-nossekSome of you may not recognize the name "Joe Nossek." Nossek was a major league baseball player during the 1960s and also a coach after his playing days were over. As a rookie, Nossek connected for hits off of Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale in the 1965 World Series. As a coach, he worked with Hank Aaron, George Brett, Bo Jackson and even Michael Jordan at different stages of his career. In addition to his five decades of major league experience, Nossek is an avid collector. In the following interview, Nossek talks baseball and cards – including his favorite non-sports set.

A Trio of Managers Enter the Hall – Collecting Rookie Cards of Cox, LaRussa and Torre

rookie-cardsRecently, the baseball Hall of Fame introduced six new members to the public. The Weil Collection – The Number One Current Finest 1951-1989 Topps Wax Packs – Any Series Baseball Set
This year, while there were more sets than ever to consider for the special award categories, there were some collections that simply left us no choice but to recognize them above the rest. This was one of those cases. When you think about different potential unopened pack runs and their importance, it is hard to beat this one. As the years have gone on and people have chosen, at their peril, to open more and more vintage packs, the supply has virtually dried up. With a total of 39 different packs, this Topps run requires every pack from 1951-1989 in order to complete the set and this year’s winner was not only complete, but it possessed an extremely strong GPA of 7.93. Just imagine the potential gems that may lurk within the wax. Click here to view this collection.
