The 1953 Bowman Football Card Set – Finding the Big White Football Cards

Simon Bourque CollectionAsk any knowledgeable football card collector and they will tell you that one of the toughest sets to complete in high grade is the 1953 Bowman issue. Full of Hall of Famers and short prints, this 96-card set was released just one year after Bowman manufactured the legendary 1952 Bowman Large and Small football sets, two sets that remain on the top of most collector want-lists today. While not as vibrant in design as Bowman's prior release, the 1953 Bowman set provides the collector with a tremendous challenge. It remains a mystery as to why these cards are seen in fewer numbers compared to other football sets of the era, but it hasn't stopped hobbyists from attempting to tackle this gridiron classic.

The 1965 Philadelphia Football Card Set – An Affordable and Overshadowed Vintage Football Issue

1965 Topps Hockey Card SetThe 1965 Philadelphia football card issue is often overlooked by collectors. Up against the classic 1965 Topps issue from the same year, this 198-card set is usually overshadowed by the towering tall boys. One year later, in 1966, the Philadelphia football card set was powered by some hugely popular rookies in Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers. The 1965 set does have its share of HOF rookies like those of Paul Warfield, Mel Renfro, Carl Eller, Paul Krause and Charley Taylor, but none carry the clout of the aforementioned 1966 rookie pair. In the following article, we dig deeper into a set that vintage football card enthusiasts seem to like more and more.

Elitecards 1985 Football - The Number One Current Finest 1985 Topps Football Set
Once you enter the post-1980 card era, collectors are much more selective about which sets to build. Within each major sport, however, there are certain sets that have clearly garnered the attention of collectors. In the graded football card market, the 1985 Topps set is one of them. This 396-card set, which resembles the 1962 Topps issue, was designed with solid, black borders. For a modern-era issue, these are very tough in PSA 10 as a result. While absent any major rookies, the set does have some notable first cards of Hall of Famers like Richard Dent and Warren Moon. It is also packed with stars, including important second year cards of John Elway and Dan Marino, not to mention the very desirable card of the legendary Walter Payton. This year's winner for Best Modern Football Set of the Year currently has an astonishing GPA of 9.83, making it #1 on the All-Time Finest list. Click here to view this set.
