The 1916 "Sporting News" M101-4 and M101-5 Baseball Card Sets

The 1916 Sporting News baseball card series has slowly become one of the more noteworthy sets in the entire hobby, mainly as a result of being the home to Babe Ruth's rookie.  Shown as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, Ruth's rookie has escalated in value dramatically over the past several years as more and more collectors have come to appreciate the card's difficulty.  What about the rest of the set?  In the following article, we find out that while Ruth will always be king, the 1916 Sporting News series is more than just the Sultan of Swat.

In 2012, the box office was dominated by superhero and comic-related movies.  Blockbusters like The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers generated enormous crowds worldwide.  Most moviegoers are aware of the mass appeal these movies bring to Hollywood.  What many of them may not know is how far back the interest in these characters goes.  That interest is clearly seen in the various trading cards sets produced over the years.  In 1966, one such set was released, featuring many of the characters who made it to the silver screen this past summer - The Marvel Avengers.
