Joe Orlando   Desperate Times - Desperate Measures
There's an old saying that goes something like this... "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." That may be true... that some people rise to the occasion during tough times and find ways to persevere but, unfortunately, there are also those who resort to foolish tactics and unethical behavior in order to deal with the adversity. In the following article, Joe Orlando discusses some of the problems that enter our hobby at times like this and ways to avoid becoming a victim. More...

1967 Venezuelan Retirado Set   1967 Venezuelan Retirado Set - An Elusive Set of Baseball Legends
The 1967 Venezuelan Retirado set is one that most collectors have heard of but don't really know much about. The 50-card set, filled with legends of the past like Babe Ruth and period stars like Sandy Koufax, is one of the toughest 1960's sets to build in respectable grade. In fact, currently, the finest possible set is below a PSA EX-MT 6 and the finest set on the PSA Set Registry is below a PSA EX 5. In the following piece, we learn more about this condition-sensitive issue. More...

Teemu - The Number One Current Finest 1970-1979 O-Pee-Chee Wax Pack-Any Series Set
During the 1970s, O-Pee-Chee continued to manufacture the most popular hockey sets of the time. Always considered much tougher than their Topps counterparts, the O-Pee-Chee cards sell for a noticeable premium. During this stretch, O-Pee-Chee was responsible for producing some of the most popular hockey rookie cards in the hobby, from Ken Dryden to Wayne Gretzky. The unopened pack category is still relatively new and, from the beginning, this set jumped out as one of the first complete runs on the Registry. Containing several of the finest graded examples, this set continues to dominate the category. This complete set, which includes images for each pack, has an excellent GPA of 8.18, enabling it to become the first recognized pack collection in the category. Question: When I hear the word "clubhouse" to describe a signed baseball, does that mean that the entire ball has been forged?

Answer: Sometimes, a clubhouse attendant, batboy or other in-house employee would sign entire baseballs on behalf of the team. Other times, items were signed in part by the players and then the "clubhouse" person would fill in the blanks so that the baseball was more complete. Either way, the forgeries certainly weren't malicious in nature but team baseballs can carry one clubhouse signature to several to the entire team depending on what was needed at the time.
