A Celebration of Yankee History: Clean Sweep Auctions has a Very Special Auction Closing on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010
As the Yankees won the 2009 World Series, Clean Sweep has built an auction around autographs, cards and memorabilia from the great Yankee teams in history. The auction opens with a very nice Ruth/Gehrig ball straight from the estate of a Red Sox trainer from the 1930s; there are about 20 additional team balls from his estate throughout the auction as well. Lot two is a remarkable ball signed by Babe Ruth and Rogers Hornsby the day of Babe's historic three-home run game in the 1926 World Series! Click for more information.

PSA Set Review Life at the Top of the 1955 Topps All-American Set
One of the more interesting finds of the last few years has been the discovery of some pristine cello boxes of 1955 Topps All American football cards. Most of us, if we were so fortunate to discover them ourselves, wouldn't possibly have the guts to open them since they are so valuable in unopened form. The collectors who found them, on the other hand, did just that with most of their packs, and now they have assembled the finest set on the PSA Registry. In the following article, we learn more about this small but amazing discovery and the collectors behind it. More...

Howard Lau Connecting with Howard Lau of Houston Sports Connection

Question: I have started to collect signed checks and was wondering if it was better to collect payroll checks or personal checks?

Answer: Payroll checks tend to sell for a premium since they are more scarce and directly related to the game itself, a real piece of history with true sports content. The general plus of personal checks, versus payroll checks, is that most personal checks (of course) feature the signature on the face of the check... which makes for easy display. Payroll checks are endorsed on the reverse, making it a bit more challenging when it comes to display.

What best describes how you feel about Mark McGwire's admission and the future of his collectibles?

  1. It will be good for his collectibles for sure
  2. It might help his collectibles but I doubt it
  3. It will not help at all since his excuse for using PEDs was laughable
  4. It will actually harm his collectibles even more because his excuse was so ridiculous
