A Survivor of a Famous Event in Baseball History!
In 1942, Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson, along with Ruth's former teammate Benny Bengough and HOF umpire Billy Evans, appeared at a charity event in Yankee Stadium. Ruth hit what was to be his last home run in Yankee Stadium that day, in full view of nearly 70,000 adoring fans. A baseball -- signed at that event by Ruth, Johnson, Bengough and Evans -- will be sold at Memory Lane's "Holy Grail" auction this month. Click here to read more.

A T206 Honus Wagner, a 1952 Topps Mantle in PSA 9, and a 1935 National Chicle Bronko Nagurski are three of four "holy grails" being offered in Memory Lane's December 14th auction. The fourth? A 1927 Yankee team photo autographed by all of the players, coaches, and even the batboy! Click here to read more.

Ryan Howard: Philadelphia's Powerhouse Slugger
Along with Ruth and Foxx, Howard found himself in a class with the likes of Roger Maris, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa for single season home run smacks. He shattered Mike Schmidt's team home run record of 48 by hitting 58 balls out of the park. Mike Schmidt said that "[Ryan is] every bit as good a hiter as Barry Bonds was in the middle of his 73-home run season [in 2001]." Click here to read more.

Question: How many jerseys do baseball players wear each year?

Answer: Great question. There was a time when players would only wear 2-4 jerseys per year. They may have a Set 1 and Set 2 for both road and home jerseys. That practice continued for many years, even into the 1980s. At some point, most likely during the latter part of that decade, players started to wear more jerseys. Today, some players wear many jerseys over the course of a season. That is due, in part, to the fact that players started to recognize how valuable their jerseys are coupled with collector demand. Some players provide game-used memorabilia to the hobby via their own companies and others have joined forces with larger entities to distribute game-used items. It does vary from player to player but there is no question that more jerseys are worn today, by far, than ever before. That is one major reason why game-used pre-1990 baseball jerseys, generally, sell for much more than post-1990 jerseys.

Which one of these Babe Ruth signed items do you think should be worth the most?

  1. A signed, cancelled check
  2. A signed baseball card
  3. A signed ticket from a Yankee game during his playing days
  4. A signed Christmas card
