Dick Williams

Richard Hirschfeld “Dick” Williams (1929-2011) was a respected baseball player and coach whose greatest accomplishments came as a big league manager. Williams led the Boston Red Sox (1967-1969), Oakland Athletics (1971-1973), California Angeles (1974-1978), Montreal Expos (1977-1981), San Diego Padres (1982-1985), and Seattle Mariners (1986-1988), and in the process secured three American League pennants a National League pennant, and a pair of World Series victories (1972, 1973). He is one of seven managers to win pennants in both major leagues, and along with Bill McKechnie is only the second manager to lead three franchises to the World Series. He and Lou Pinella are also the only managers in history to lead four teams to seasons of 90 or more wins. Williams ended his career with 1,571 wins and 1,451 losses, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.
