About this set: This Star Trek set, released by Topps in 1976, covers all three seasons of the Original Series that aired on television from 1966-1969. The set was created to promote the release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979 which was a sequel to the television series that had 79 episodes. Although most episodes are covered by just one card, more popular episodes have as many as 3-5 cards describing the story. There are 38 Gem Mint 10's in this set of 88 cards and 9 of them were self-submitted. I opened 12 wax boxes to help complete this mint set of cards. Card #3 was the most difficult card to obtain in mint condition and card #77 was the last card to be graded in mint condition per the PSA population report. Facts appear on the back of each card and there are no puzzles in this set. The front and back of each card are shown. I have Topps Vault Proof Cards (reverse sides only) for cards #2 and #4. Topps Vault Final Card Art Photos are shown for cards #8, #68, #81 and #86. In addition to these, there are 39 autographed cards shown that have been certified by PSA/DNA. Most notably, the first card is signed by William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk) and the last card is signed by Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock). Card #8 is signed by Shatner and Nimoy and card #57 is again signed by Shatner. Furthermore, there are 6 blue label PSA/DNA cards that are signed by Shatner and they include the following numbers: #2, #13, #17, #38, #78 and #85. Although Topps did not include Sulu in this set, I obtained George Takei's autograph on cards #13 and #16. Nichelle Nichols' (Lt. Uhura) autograph is on card #6 and Walter Koenig's (Ensign Chekov) autograph is on card #7. With the exception of the James Doohan (Scotty) autograph on card #5 and the DeForest Kelley (Dr. "Bones" McCoy) autograph on card #71, I personally obtained all of the autographs at Star Trek conventions and celebrity shows in Hollywood, Burbank, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas. Besides all of the regular cast members, I also have autographs from the following 20 guest actors and actresses: Eddie Paskey (Lt. Leslie) who appeared in 57 episodes, Sean Kenney (Captain Pike), Clint Howard (Commander Balok), Sherry Jackson (Andrea), Joan Collins (Edith Keeler), Teri Garr (Roberta Lincoln), Barbara Luna (Marlena Moreau), Gary Lockwood (Gary Mitchell), Sally Kellerman (Elizabeth Dehner), Don Marshall (Lt. Boma), Bobby Clark (Gorn Captain), Michael Forest (Apollo), Joanne Linville (Romulan Commander), Arlene Martel (T'Pring), Felix Silla (Talosian), Lawrence Montaigne (Decius & Stonn), Celeste Yarnall (Yeoman Martha Landon), Jack Donner (Romulan Subcommander Tal), Sid Haig (First Lawgiver) and Mariette Hartley (Zarabeth). The autographed cards in this set are highlighted with red borders and they are among my favorites. Not only have I added high grade cards to this set, I have also tried to take it to the next level by adding unique autographs and Topps Vault memorabilia. Some of the signed cards in this set were featured in an article inside the August 2013 issue of Sports Market Report. I also have a 1976 Topps Star Trek sticker set on the PSA Registry to compliment this card set that was the first to reach an average of 9.00 or better in 2009. PSA subsequently awarded this set as the Best Modern Non-Sports Set of the Year in 2009. In 2013, Star Trek: The Original Topps Trading Card Series hardcover book was released by Abrams ComicArts to honor this great set by Topps. In 2015 at the Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, card #88 with Leonard Nimoy's autograph on the front was featured on a PSA/DNA banner showing non-sports cards. See card #88 for photos. With the advent of the Top Pop Bonuses Point system in 2015, this set reached an all time high of 10.09. Dedicated to my loving grandmother, Imogene "Nanny" Barbieri, and Star Trek fans everywhere!
