As one of the most visually attractive and difficult sets of the 1960s, the 1963 Topps baseball set is a top choice amongst collectors. Of all the 1960s Topps issues, this set made the best use of color. The bold colors provide excellent eye-appeal but, due to the solid, colored borders at the base of each card, finding high-grade examples is a chore. They are as beautiful as they are easily chipped. This great set is also filled with tremendous star power. It is also home to one of the most desirable cards in the hobby, the Pete Rose rookie card. Willie Stargell, another key Hall of Famer, also has a rookie card in the high-number series. Along with the usual dose of stars like Mickey Mantle, Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays, there are a few extremely popular combo cards. Buc Blasters (Clemente, etc.), Bomber's Best (Tresh/Mantle/Richardson), Power Plus (Aaron/Banks), Pride of the N.L. (Mays/Musial), and Dodgers' Big Three (Koufax/Drysdale/Podres) are all very popular cards and they help make this set, perhaps, the most desirable of the decade.
