The 1911 C55 hockey tobacco card set consists of 45 pieces, each 1-1/2” by 2-1/2". Printed with a small white border, a color-line-drawing of a player framed by two hockey sticks graces each card, with the player’s name and card number at the bottom edge. The same two pieces of information are repeated on the reverse. Players in this set, anchored by Paddy Moran (#1), Fred "Cyclone" Taylor (#20), Art Ross (#31), Newsy Lalonde, Jack Laviolette (#45) and by the rookie cards of Joe Hall (#2), Joe Malone (#4), Jack Darragh (#17), Sprague Cleghorn (#24) and Georges Vezina (#38) represent the Quebec Bulldogs, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers and Renfrew Millionaires. Two different versions of Walter Smaill’s card (#27) exist, one showing him with his right hand on a stick and the other with his hand on his hip. This unattributed Canadian tobacco issue, thought to have been released by Imperial Tobacco, remains a key segment of any advanced vintage hockey collection.
