About this set: The best third baseman of all-time, hands down. Played for the Philadelphia Phillies his entire life. What an amazing player!
Retiring this set in April 2016. It's been an amazingly fun run collecting and upgrading Mike Schmidt over the past 14 years. Although I will still continue to keep some of my favourite Mike Schmidt items, I will no longer be actively pursuing a complete Registry set.
Since I started putting this set together in the early 2000s, I've amassed well over 500 different PSA 10s, including over one hundred 1/1's with none higher (across PSA 10, 9 and other grades).
The collecting community and PSA has made this a very fun journey for me. I have so many amazing collectors who have helped me out along the way, from Neal Kane, to Tim Orff, to Jamie T., to Lew Berish and dozens of others who have contributed in small and meaningful ways over time.
As I retire this set, I do have perhaps one or two dozen Mike Schmidt PSA graded cards that are not shown in the retired set (spec. certifications change, variations evolve, etc.). I have found that where I will continue to find joy with Mike Schmidt is searching out the rare and crazy, rather than the grade specific variations.
So, as my collecting evolves, I'll focus less on quantity (e.g. A 1988 Disc single, a 1988 Disc panel, both PSA graded) and more on those cards that you simply don't find but once a decade:
A Mike Schmidt Sportscaster card with the back in a foreign language, a 1982 FBI Disc Panel, a 1990 Donruss Blue/White Test card, etc.
Thank you everyone for having made this such a fun journey. I'm a huge fan of Mike Schmidt, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the collecting community.
